Known for her compassionate and revealing photographic images of underground subcultures, documentary photographer Jana Marcus brings to book format her award-winning work, Transfigurations, a startling and ground-breaking photographic series on the transgender community.

Through beautiful imagery and quotes from her transgender male and female subjects, the work explores the trandgender journey and the meanings of masculinity and femininity in our culture.

The 144-page coffee table book, with a foreword by renown trans activist Jamison Green, was included in Photo District News' prestigious Photo Annual Best Pictures of the Year in both 2004 and 2005, Center for Photographic Arts Awards, Phelan Art Awards, The International Photography Awards, Best Photo Exhibits of 2006, Community Activist of the Year by BAYMEC, and the Gold Medal for "Best LGBT Non-Fiction Book of 2012" by the Independent Publishers Book Awards of New York.
